I am currently finishing my BA in Graphic Design, and want to go to graduate school, but want to look outside of graphic design. I think I would be a perfect candidate for and Art Director position based on my personality. I have already worked several management positions and have been team leader in several of my graphic design classes.
So I have been thinking of getting a MBA Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship. So my question is will this help or get me the job that I want?

Sure you can, that’s a great degree to have. In my opinion you don’t really need the MBA part to make art director. You’ll probably want to spend some time getting familiar with a corporate or even start-up environment as a designer so you can see how it works, learn more software etc… in the work environment. You just need to understand the bigger picture especially when it comes to larger campaigns etc….Most art director’s I’ve known have always started out as designers and ended up working their way up, even with a masters, but this could vary based on location, the amount of talent, what industry (ex: advertising, broadcast, corporate in-house, web etc…). But since your thinking of an MBA with concentration on innovation management and entrepreneurship, why would you want to be an art director for someone else? Maybe you could learn more from others for a little bit but eventually you’ll probably want to be out on your own. Why not be your own boss and start your own firm/or unique design service? It sounds like you like the idea of leading so that might suit you well.
